Description

Rowan University Libraries' Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee was created in Fall 2019. The Committee’s mission is to lead the ongoing work of the Libraries to become more inclusive spaces for all library users and workers, to build the cultural competencies of our community, and to embrace diversity in our collections and resources. Its vision is to ensure that all users and employees of the Libraries feel that their identities are fully respected and represented. This Committee's work is aligned with that of the University's Division of DEI. This poster will highlight the achievements of the Libraries’ DEI Committee since its inception which include establishment of strategic goals based on self-assessment; conducting self-reflection discussions and exercises at the Libraries’ monthly All Staff Meetings; drafting monthly newsletters and organizing a Reading Group. The poster will also share some next steps, such as conducting an Equity Audit of the Libraries’ collections and resources, and documenting and recommending the incorporation of DEI hiring practices within the Libraries.
