Author Bio

Ryan Derby-Talbot, PhD, is a mathematician and the founding President of the Abu Dhabi Experiential College, a new two-year honors college based on experiential learning being developed in the United Arab Emirates. He has previously been the Vice President: Dean and Chief Financial Officer of Deep Springs College, and the Chief Academic Officer of both Fulbright University Vietnam and Quest University Canada. Ryan has written about the innovative approaches of several of these institutions previously in the Journal of Ontological Inquiry in Education. He is interested in experimental approaches to higher education that enrich the learner’s experience through direct observation, risk-taking, self-authorship and reflection.
