James Humble has been with the Ryan Memorial Library at St. Charles Seminary since 2002 and received his M.S.L.S. from Clarion University in 2007. Over the years he has worked in nearly every department (i.e., getting the “small library benefit”): ILL, periodicals, cataloging, reference, acquisitions. Currently, he is focused on: library outreach via targeted information literacy sessions held throughout the year; co-teaching a full-semester information literacy course for freshmen in the spring; and introducing e-books to the RML collection. Having helped move countless books during two massive collection shifts—one during the renovation of 2004-5, and the other the subject of today’s presentation—he feels eminently qualified to speak about the unsuspected weight loss benefits of working in a library.

Chelsea Post is the Digital Services Librarian at Ryan Memorial Library at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary. She has been an employee of the seminary for the past three years, having received her M.L.I.S. from Drexel University in 2013. As Digital Services Librarian, Chelsea does a number of the day-to-day activities at RML, including cataloguing, reference, and periodical management. She also edits the website for the entire seminary, acting as technical support for the editing of specific web pages. In addition to assisting James Humble with the teaching of a one-credit information literacy course to the first-year seminarians, Chelsea also oversees the employment of student workers at the library, training them to operate the library according to our policies. It is her hope that today’s presentation will help other libraries prepare for the future, whatever it may bring.
