Bucks is engaged in a two-year strategic initiative to transition sections of 10 gateway courses to the exclusive use of resources that are free to students. Librarians play a key role in guiding the identification, evaluation and promotion of OER and library resources and in the interpretation of licensing.

The Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU) Library is using BluuBeam technology, a proximity beacon, to engage patrons and push information to them. CMSRU librarians send “beams” to supplement the curriculum and provide resource assistance virtually. The CMSRU Library received the Health Sciences Librarian Project grant funding award from the Middle Atlantic Region (MAR) of NLM, National Institutes of Health (NIH) to engage in this research. The goal, which is not yet complete, is to assess whether students’ use of library resources during case-based sessions changes when libraries send supplemental material, library tutorials, and reminders of resources that pertain to their current case via BluuBeam.

Library administrators need to be able to demonstrate their department’s impact and value. An initial step in this assessment process is conducting space and usage studies. Rowan University Campbell Library’s study has helped influence decisions that impacted building renovations and services and began quantitatively demonstrating the library’s value.
