Description

In the winter of 2018, the Widener Community Reading Group was born out of a collaboration between a Biology faculty member, Kate Goodrich and Librarian Molly Wolf. The reading group is open to all members of the Widener community (faculty, staff, and students) and is a forum for discussion and intergroup dialogue, with the goal of improving individual understanding of cultures, identities, histories, and communities. The facilitators hope that this increased interpersonal and community awareness will help in building and supporting an inclusive campus culture. Although the facilitators did not know it at the time, the Widener Community Reading Group is an exercise in Cultural Humility as it encourages introspection and lifelong learning about cultures and people’s lived experiences. This poster will detail my experiences as co-facilitator, the challenges and successes we’ve experienced so far, and the perceived impact the group has on its participants, and the books we have read and plan to read.
